Get to know our Esports drivers: Simon Weigang
Simon Weigang started his F1 Esports journey in 2019, and joins us this year from Haas. With a pure focus on open-wheel cars, and with his extensive experience in a variety of leagues and continued increasing performance from season to season in the world’s most competitive sim-racing competition, he is a valuable talent to have and we cannot wait to see how he performs in the upcoming 2021 season.
Before the season kicks off in October though, we thought we’d get to know a little more about one of our latest signings…
Name: Simon Weigang
Age: 23
Nationality: German
Hobbies: Football, Basketball, MMA, Weightlifting, Astronomy, Physics and many more.
1. When did your interest in F1 start?
My earliest memories were from Michael Schumacher and his domination at Ferrari. I was always a fan of his and he introduced me to F1.
2. How does it feel to be a part of the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN F1 Esports team?
It feels fantastic. The team had great success in Esports last year with Jarno Opmeer and Dani Bereznay and the rest of the boys. We’re looking to at least repeat that this year.
3. What is the most important thing you’ve learnt in racing so far?
Just competing at the highest level with the pressure against great drivers. You could say the grid becomes stronger every year and I love every bit of it.
4. Who has been your biggest competitor so far?
Tough one. I’d say Josh Idowu because I’ve been competing against him since I started on F1. He’s also a good friend though.
5. Which track would you love to see added to the F1 game and why?
Nürburgring Nordschleife, so demanding but would be so much fun.
6. What other games do you enjoy playing?
At the moment Rocket League and COD Cold War.
7. What’s your proudest moment in Esports to date?
Only P4 in Silverstone unfortunately. I’m not too happy with that and am looking to change it for next year.
8. Who’s your favourite streamer and/or racer?
My favourite streamer is Josh Idowu, my favourite racer is Michael Schumacher.
9. What’s one song you can’t stop listening to recently?
As of right now I rediscovered “Ein Hoch auf Uns” from Andreas Bourani. It was the main song here when we won the World Cup 2014 and listening to it gives me good vibes for Euro 2020.
10. What’s the last thing you watched on TV?
Euro 2020.
11. Have you ever had any nicknames in life and, if so, what were they?
My father calls me Dicker. Which means “chubby one” essentially because I used to be fat. He still calls me that and I never had anything against it for the record.
12. What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
My loved ones.
13. If you won the lottery what is the first thing you’d buy?
I’d be an investor and live off dividends and returns so I can’t blow it. Then I’d buy a house and a few cool cars. Travelling the world is also on the list.
14. If you could share a meal with any four individuals, living or dead, who would they be?
Albert Einstein, Elon Musk, Michael Schumacher, Jimmy Carter.
15. If you could ask Kimi one question, what would it be?
Hmm…what’s his favourite alcoholic beverage?
16. If you could go to one place with Antonio, where would it be?
Probably Italy so he can show me the places to go!
