Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN ready for Virtual Monaco challenge
Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN will field a strong line-up of drivers on a busy weekend of esports racing on the hallowed streets of Monaco. Formula One ace Antonio Giovinazzi will be driving once more alongside footballer Thibaut Courtois, while Juan Manuel Correa, Daniel Bereznay and Bardia Boroumand will again represent the team in Saturday’s and Sunday’s events.
The Formula One season may be skipping the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time since 1954, but at least the road of the Principality will be kept busy by the virtual racers, as three major events take place over the weekend. The “Not the GP” Series by Veloce will take place on Saturday, with the Pro Exhibition race on Sunday, followed by the flagship event of the two days, the Monaco Virtual Grand Prix.
With more than 20 million people having watched events from the Virtual Grand Prix Series, the stakes are high. The pairing of Antonio Giovinazzi and Thibaut Courtois, popular and successful in Barcelona two weeks ago, will return for the official race, with the pro esports races duo of Bereznay and Boroumand – the latter scoring his first podium in Spain – will compete in the event reserved for simracers.
Belgian goalkeeper Courtois will also star in the Saturday event, paired with Juan Manuel Correa. The duo will face a competitive grid featuring Formula One drivers, celebrities and content creators.
The Monaco Virtual Grand Prix will be live from 7:00pm (CEST) on Sunday, May 24, on Formula One’s official Formula 1 YouTube, Twitch, Weibo, Huya and Facebook channels. The Pro Exhibition race will start one hour before, at 6:00pm (CEST), while the Veloce “Not the GP” will take place at 9pm (CEST) on Saturday.
