2025 Monaco Grand Prix: Preview

Hinwil, 21 May 2025 – Stake F1 Team KICK Sauber heads to Monte Carlo for Round 8 of the 2025 Formula One World Championship: the Monaco Grand Prix. As the second leg of the European triple-header, the race is the crown jewel of the calendar – where precision and focus are key.
Monaco is one of the most extreme circuits on the calendar, with its narrow streets leaving no room for error. A strong qualifying performance is absolutely crucial to shaping a solid race result. Adding to the dynamism of the weekend, this year´s race challenges the teams to work with a mandatory two-stop strategy.
Team Quotes
Jonathan Wheatley, Team Principal: “Monaco always captures the world´s imagination for its atmosphere and the history of this iconic circuit. There will be a modern twist to the heritage this year, with two mandatory pit stops being implemented for the first time at this race, meaning that data and decision-making will be more important than ever. Monaco is a challenge on and off the track: the narrow streets and tight corners offer virtually no margin for error, making it even more rewarding when everything comes together. Post Imola, we have spent the week carefully reviewing the data and decisions made during the race. I feel we didn't deliver our best for both drivers when opportunities arose and, as ever, we will look at every chance to improve.”
Nico Hulkenberg (car number 27): “Monaco is a race like no other and definitely one of my favourites. To wake up in your own bed and go to the track with your scooter is something I really enjoy. The racing itself is very demanding and all about precision and it will be interesting to see what impact the two mandatory pitstops will have on the race on Sunday. We want to take the positive feeling from a clean and well executed race in Imola. Of course, we still have some work to do, and we will keep pushing to improve our package to be able to fight for points consistently."
Gabriel Bortoleto (car number 5): "It’s great to be racing in Monaco – the atmosphere, the history, and the challenge make this weekend truly iconic. The team has been working hard behind the scenes to prepare, and I have been back in Hinwil putting in time on the simulator after Imola. Last weekend didn’t go exactly as I had hoped, but there were still some positives to build on, especially in terms of pace. I’m excited to be back on track, take in every corner, and give it everything I’ve got.”
